Origin
From The Fellowship of the Ring โ the nine companions chosen to destroy the One Ring. The composition (hobbits, men, elf, dwarf, wizard) became the template for the 'party' in fantasy and games.
Modern usage
'Get the fellowship together' = assemble your team. Used in startups, group chats, and games.
