character
Snow White
Innocence threatened by envy.
Origin
Grimm tale. A queen, jealous of her stepdaughter's beauty, orders her killed, then tries again with poisoned apple. Snow White is saved by a prince's kiss (or, in older versions, by jolting awake when the coffin is moved).
Modern usage
An image of stark, almost cartoonish innocence-versus-envy. Disney's 1937 version froze the iconography.
