phrase
Prodigal Son
Someone who leaves, fails, and returns โ and is welcomed back.
Origin
In Jesus's parable (Luke 15), a younger son demands his inheritance, blows it on dissolute living, and crawls home expecting to be a servant. His father throws a feast. The story is the archetype of repentance and undeserved welcome.
Modern usage
Used (often loosely) for any returning figure โ a player rejoining their old team, an executive coming back to the company they left.
