adjective

Nietzschean

Reflecting Friedrich Nietzsche's themes: will to power, the death of God, the overcoming of conventional morality.

Origin

From Friedrich Nietzsche (1844โ€“1900). His writing on the 'death of God,' the รœbermensch, ressentiment, and master/slave morality made him one of the most cited โ€” and most misread โ€” modern philosophers.

Modern usage

Used in cultural criticism, anti-establishment rhetoric, and (often badly) in self-help. 'A Nietzschean approach to life' usually means 'unsentimental and ambitious.'
