Groundhog Day

A day that endlessly repeats โ€” or any situation stuck in a loop.

Origin

From the 1993 film Groundhog Day, in which weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) wakes up to relive February 2nd over and over in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, until he becomes a better person. The conceit became a permanent fixture of pop storytelling and spawned a sub-genre of time-loop films.

Modern usage

'Feels like Groundhog Day' is the universal complaint about repetitive jobs, dating cycles, and post-pandemic weekday blurs.

In the wild

The whole spring has been Groundhog Day.โ€” common usage
