Big Bang

The origin event of anything โ€” the moment it all started.

Origin

The cosmological theory that the universe began ~13.8 billion years ago in a hot dense state and has been expanding ever since. The name was coined dismissively by physicist Fred Hoyle in a 1949 BBC broadcast โ€” Hoyle preferred a steady-state universe โ€” but the name stuck. The CBS sitcom (2007โ€“2019) didn't hurt its visibility.

Modern usage

Borrowed for any origin story โ€” a company's big bang, an industry's big bang, the big bang of a relationship.
